Not really craft but ... 16 years 11 months ago #1

Saw a link to realbeers.ie on the Irishtimes article there that beernut pointed out here <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.irishcraftbrewer.com/Community/viewtopic.php?t=2603">www.irishcraftbrewer.com/Communi ... php?t=2603

Anyway for giggles I looked for beers from Austria , and they have

Gosser ( was my favourite when I was young ) and Zipfer ( was a fair staple in the pubs around Linz , my sister worked an Irish bar there for a year and never could pronounce the Z right , called it Tipfor the whole time <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> )

Anyway , I was impressed to find them , although the price is shocking, €52 for 20 33cl bottles of a beer that costs probably €10 euro a crate of 24 500mls in Austria , but then that is business for ya.

My absolute favourite beer ever is brewed in this place in Salzburg <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.augustinerbier.at/index.php?id=brauerei_augustiner&L=1">www.augustinerbier.at/index.php? ... stiner&L=1

Very interesting site to look at , but really it's the beer , it's nectar . I'm going to have to organise a pilgramage soon .....

Did you get to Augustinerbräu Kloster Mülln? In my view and it turn out ron pattersons the best beer hall and garden in Europe! Fantastic

I've been there twice at least, once as a 15 year old on holidays , again when I was about 22 , at Christmas time , I was probably there as well when I was about 8 , but I don't remember if I drank beer then ( likely I did though )

It is a real experience , and the atmosphere is nice in there too , food's pretty good ( all Austrian food is really) but yeah , nothing beats having a beer pulled direct from the Oak Barrel into your stein mug by a tonsured monk in his habit . The beer is really like nectar , slides so easilly , it's cooling in summer and warming in winter and there's a near spiritual buzz from it .

I have to go again to taste it instead of relying on memory
