When a pub has a tap for a craft beer and a customer wants to try a sup of this beer they're not familiar with, the barman will usually let them try it. Is this funded by the supplier by lowering their price per keg slightly, or is it just good barstaff?

i'd imagine it's good barstaff.

I think that it is good practice, as long as it is just a taste and not someone taking a bit of everything. If you are looking for a taste sampler I'd imagine that most pubs would charge you a fiver or something to try a few at a time. Set samplers are also a good way to try a few at a time and guarantee at least some money back to the bar. In my experience back in the states, most pubs that carry craft beer are willing to let you taste one or two for free if you seem to be generally interested-I'd assume that if you're a craft brew supplier then this is already built into your pricing since it is common practice.

And it's also a good house policy. Bars that specialise in certain products should always give a sample, especially when trying to convert people.

Its a great idea. no point in trying to drink a pint of something that is not up your street. the b&c and porterhouse have always been very welcoming in that regard. well done geoff. (good management really)

I'd like to add Dice Bar to that list who let me try all of the Big Hand Brewery beers before buying
