Brew Dog Paradox Islay 17 years 2 months ago #1

Brew Dog Paradox Islay is available in Black Rock at Odd Bins right now. They got in 3 or four CASES of it in, and are selling it for 5.99€ a bottle or 143€ per case (yes, I realize that's not a discount at all). 5.99 a bottle is actually quite a bit cheaper than the "going rate" that I've seen for it.

They've also got Brew Dog Punk IPA in, quite a bit of LaChouffe (bruine if I remember correctly), Schoenhoffer hefeweizen, and the 80/ and an IPA from Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh. (I get a little beer preview for my trip to Edinburg in two weeks.)

The Brew Dog Paradox Islay is a REALLY nice find; I'll post feedback after I crack it open this Saturday. (Brew day for the weizen; FINALLY!)

Dammit, could they not have got in a version I haven't had? Still, great to see it and I heartily recommend.

Woo Hoo! This is the one I don't have.

I'd almost swear that it said "batch 11", but when I view the brewdog website it would appear that no such batch exists.... I'll double check tonight.

WOW!

As hyped as it is, I still don't think it's hyped enough.

I cannot say enough good things about this beer; I'm going to have to pick up a couple more and I'm going to take BrewDog's recommendation to try it over vanila bean ice cream.

I've tried my fair share of oak aged beers, and even whiskey/bourbon barrel aged beers, but nothing has had this much vanilla flavour. I know that vanillin is a naturally occuring chemical in oak, but its still hard to believe that no vanilla beans were involved in this one.

It's got that wonderful smooth texture, too like there's some oats in it, but I'm not so sure that they actually use any oats.

I'll agree with most everyone else when I say that the head is dissapointing/non-existent. The only way I could see this improved would be if it had a better head; and of course if it was cheaper.

This is now my benchmark for Whiskey/Bourbon barrel-aged high-gravity stouts. (Although I've still got two bottles of Barrel-aged Yeti sitting at home that will likely top the Paradox Islay in mouthfeel and head.)
