Didn't he say that they'd made a mistake on the documentation and had to pay tax up front inadvertently on one shipment? I'm perfectly possibly wrong, though.
Funny. I had been thinking of the same thing in Germany, but I stopped thinking about it as I'm sure the German system is even more complex. Then again, maybe it isn't!

Saw somewhere in the UK where you can buy this by the crate. Was considering ordering a crate for personal consumption but wondered what the shipping and duty might come to? I suspect I don't want to know the answer

Cantillon is what I initially had in mind. I'm really trying to establish whether I'd make a loss small enough to justify bringing over a few crates

I've tried so few wits that I don't really know. I just think it's a shame that there aren't more available.

It's possible that you may be able to pay the tax up front so Revenue aren't bothered about what the beer is doing before you sell it, but I don't think anyone does that. There are other people on ICB who know more about this than me.[/quote:2t9kslup]
Actually, I'm pretty sure that's what Jonathan does. Or maybe I just got the wrong end of the stick, and he said he *wasn't* doing it because it was too expensive up-front. But we definitely discussed it and I do think he paid up-front.[/quote:2t9kslup]
I thought he said this too.
