Only came across this today while i was wondering whether to head oop north on a beer-run

some interesting beers from recognised breweries entered into the competition to ensure "long-term listing" in sainsbury which actually means from august until the new year.
anywho, the beers i'm most interested in here are the st peters amarillo ale and more especially ginger tom - a mixture of old tom and fentiman's ginger ale (which i love) anyone seen either available down here or up north?

I was in the Newry branch week before last and the only one of these they had was the Copper Dragon 1816. I also got:
Badger Pumpkin Ale
Badger Poacher's Choice
Badger Blandford Fly
Wychwood Osprey
Theakston's XB
Meantime Pale Ale
one of the Innis & Gunn special editions, and a couple of others.

I had the Blandford Fly a while ago (in Mallorca of all places) and thought it sounded promising. I was disappointed as the esters from the yeast competed with the ginger and it was too fruity. I thought the ginger would have sat much better with a beer that was drier.

Hmmm. I'm on a zero-for-two on the Badger beers so far. So I'm already thinking the Blandford Fly may not be very good.

have you tried the Badgers First Gold yet? I really enjoyed that one. Wasn't too keen on the Poacher's Choice though
