The supermarket Corte Inglés has a better selection than any Irish supermarket if have the chance to get to one.[/quote:14nvj5vf]
I found the Corte Ingles wasn't great when I was over in Puerto Banus (Marbella) 2 weeks ago - I had a good look around as well! I ended up deciding that it was better to stick with wine.[/quote:14nvj5vf]

I suppose it depends where so - the one in Barcelona is class, lots of different German beers, all the familiar Belgians, some English (Marstons mostly) and loads of lovely beer+glassware packs. Aside from going to a specialist shop (or which there are few), it's your best bet.

Hmm Mallorca's a tough one alright. Hipermarkets off the motorway would be the way to go. Carrefour or Alcampo.

I'll try the bigger supermarkets for the cider this time.[/quote:16ou3d17]

They've been pushing that shite here for over a year now - selling it in normal Spanish bars - apparently they're testing in BCN and in Berlin if I remember correctly.
In the beginning they tried to keep the pint bottle + ice format. I got a lot of flak from friends and colleagues about that one - this is a country with plenty of cider tradition after all.
Now they've gone for standard 33cl bottles, can't imagine they're selling much.

It is indeed powerful stuff, from what I hear. I might get a bottle of it and experiment with an eyedropper. It's only £1.95 from Hop & Grape. Might turn out to be essential survival equipment in some circumstances.

I will make it my mission to report back (if there's anything worth reporting).

Non beer destinations would be a useful resource, it's not too difficult to find good beer in some of the more well known locations.

I imagine there's a reasonably sized Corte Ingles in Palma so if we do a day trip I'll check it out.

Speaking of Puerto Banus/Marbella you could check out Bierhaus Marbella. I was in touch with them in April but I didn't make it as far as them. At the time they had this to say:

"We have now 5 kinds of beer: pils, marzen, full mond (black), mulata (real ale) and cherrybeer".

In any case it'll do fine in the resorts where Spaniards aren't the target market.

I'd say it's been available here a good few years in Irish pubs and on the Costa del Sol.

This is completely different though - very aggressive advertising in local language (Spanish and Catalan), lots of product placement etc.

Thankfully the Spanish seem to be turning their nose up at it - they love crappy lager (anything cold does the job really) but cider is far more of a niche product linked directly to Basque/Asturian styles.
