Abbot Ale House 17 years 9 months ago #1

A friend of mine is coming to visit from Cork and agreed to pick up a selection from the Abbot Ale House. Does anybody have any ideas as i've never been there and after a quick search on the net i can't find a site for them and no idea what they stock

I hate when this happens: someone's going someplace good and you have to give them beer-buying instructions blind. Like the wife was in Brussels recently and, thinking she'd be nowhere with a better selection than a Spar, I said bring back Rochefort. She ended up making it to one of the specialist shops and brought back... Rochefort. Ah well, I'm not complaining <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) -->

Anyway, I dunno what the answer to this is. I doubt there's much point phoning the Abbot's to read out their selection over the phone, 'cos it's [i:sb5ho7mo]huge[/i:sb5ho7mo]. Perhaps, if there's time, and out of brotherly love, one of our Cork brethern might be willing to nip in, photograph the shelves, and post the images here for you (and anyone else around) to make a selection.

Failing that, ask for Riggwelter: it's lovely.

Don't know what you have tried but here are a few suggestions from their current beers -

Weihenstephaner beers - Vitus, weisbier, weisbier dunkel and traditional dunkel.
Ayinger - Celebrator and ur weiss,
Brewdog - Hardcope IPA and Statesque Lager.
Sierra Nevada and Goose Island ranges, - at least 4-5 sierra nevada's
All Rochfort's, chimay's and Karmeliet trappists.

I think you have enough there four yor friend. If you give him a list of a few he could just give this to the staff there and they will pull the bottles for him. Guys there are very helpful.

Enjoy. Any other queries ask me by all means.

Probably not much help to you but I find the Abbott has at least all the usual suspects that you'll find in the better Dublin off licences plus a few more.

Ger will be more up to date than me as I was last there a couple of months back. At the time they also had a couple of the Flying Dog beers. The IPA is very good. Brooklyn Lager and EIPA were there as was Martin's Pale Ale (Belgian APA for lack of a better description) which was very nice.
