Not really sure about both these styles. So I'm looking for a couple of solid benchmarks for each style to try, then when I try Irish breweries against them I'll know standards etc.
Worthwhile exercise??

Definitely!
Saison Dupont tends to be cited as the benchmark saison.
"Sour" isn't really a style, but Cantillon Gueuze and Oude Geuze Boon are good places to start.
