Had this a few years ago and was left fairly unimpressed. Standard enough lager, or so I thought.

However I've picked it up in Aldi a few times over the last few weeks just out of curiosity and have been pleasantly surprised - lovely classic Czech Pilsner feel to it now, and very drinkable.

Anyone know if the recipe or grain bill has changed for it recently? Or maybe just my taste buds are maturing?

As nobody seems to know the answer, and having been on the unreceiving end of a few unanswered threads I thought I'd give my two cents...

I don't know if the recipe or process has changed, although it's possible and probable, but I'd be inclined to blame your taste buds!

In my opinion and logically thinking, how a beer is perceived by your taste buds will change from hour-to-hour, day-to-day, month-to-month, etc. so I would more surprised if it tasted the same to be honest. Your mood, location, company and a million other factors can affect it too...

You can really only say how a beer tastes 'in the moment' so to speak, not how it will taste next time you have it. You could drink it next year and think, 'Meh...', again.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on it...

Haven't tried it recently and I never used to like any Carrig beers but They now have an American head brewer who I'm guessing has fixed up both the recipe and the process as their pale ale and black IPA are both good.

I haven't tasted Carrig Pils in [i:bi3911ie]years[/i:bi3911ie], probably since it was contract brewed. Coalface is still their best, IMO. I didn't think much of the new Iron Mountain stout.

But I agree with Liam: I find my opinions on individual beers can change radically depending on all sorts of factors.

This is James from Carrig Brewing Co. Thanks for the feedback. Yes we have tweaked the malt bill on our Pils and in a few of our other beers, We have an American Brewer Daniel Reynolds who as helped us improve our recipes.
We have a new pilot system (80L) so keep an eye for some of Daniels specials - we should have a Dunkleweizen on tap in the next week or so.
