Unusual one here, Two Sisters Brewing have a red ale called Brigid's Ale. Galway Bay and Cigar City recently brewed a collaboration and the brewer's named it Brigid, released the artwork on the 14th and set a launch date for 22nd. Two Sisters contacted GBB on the 21st to inform them of the infringement. GBB offered payment to Two Sisters as the beer had already shipped. Two Sisters refused but the distributors had already sent the beer out to bars/off licenses. The draught is being renamed but there are 100 cases of bottles out in the market that will have the Brigid name.
NB: The name "Brigid's Ale" is trademarked but not "Brigid".
I think it's slightly bad form on Two Sister's part. It was only a one off batch and GBB did their best to try and rectify the problem and offer compensation.
From reading two sisters web site it doesnt seem that their beer is even widely available.I have read a load of the tweets from two sisters and they seem to be stirring up backlash again GB.I think two sisters have taken this way too far as it was clearly a mistake and also this was a one of beer of a different style.
It's not the first time one Irish micro has gone legal against another over a name.
I can see both sides here. I noticed the GBB name just before I went on holidays and thought that could get interesting. Seems it did while I was away <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
