Possible Microbrewer 10 years 7 months ago #1

Hi Folks,

My self and two of my buddies have been throwing around the idea of possibly getting Biermaster and attempting a few brews with the end goal of producing something we could actually sell. Being from Clare we do see a huge amount of tourism, I feel a craft brewery could possibly do well, tying the brews in with the heritage in the local area.
I suppose my point is , has anyone had similar ideas and followed through with it ? If they were successful great stuff , if not i would appreachiate all feedback on the potential idea.

Are we safer to develop on the small scale, possibly Gypsy brew it and see how it does ?

Thanks for reading,
Jason

That's kinda the way a lot of the micro brewers got into it. Check out the Starting Your Own Brewery megathread on this forum. And Bord Bia also have something in the pipeline (to be launched in October) which will be a guide for people wanting to get into brewing and/or distilling.

I had a meeting with them on Tuesday. Briefly, it will be a PDF with all the details required to get a micro brewery (or distillery) up and running, including all the pesky dealings with Revenue. I am hoping to get my hands on a pre-release copy so I'll let you know more once I've seen it.

Andrew, Will you ask them about Craft Cider start ups and [u:2mpnq248]IN PARTICULA[/u:2mpnq248]R the excise exemption that means you are exempt if you are a landowner (like farmer or Rugby Club) and your principle business is [u:2mpnq248]NOT[/u:2mpnq248] making cider. This is enshrined in I think the 1948 excise legislation.

Its what Double LL Cider had the court case about ( Dave Llewelyn).
