But its not a few extra cents, its 40% more expensive that the cheapest on the list

ABV doesn't matter as much as quality:
Metalman PA is a better beer than all except 2 or 3 of the names in that list.
I'll also pay it for peace of mind - hoppy ales in bottles are just easier to mistreat and ruin.
But to each his own.
And to answer a previous question, it's an expiry date.
For the likes of us, though, it'd be easy enough to find out Metalman's policy and work backwards.
