Just back from a 2 week tour, very enjoyable, see other updates.

However, the practice of charging significantly more than half for a glass of craft ale needs to be addressed.

Can Beoir campaign on this issue?

No matter where we were, Dublin, Waterford, Dungarvan, Wexford, we encountered the same problem, namely overcharging for a glass (half). For example - pint 5 Euro, glass 2 Euro 90c. I make that a 16% mark up! What's that all about?

This hardly happens at all in the UK, in fact I think it may be illegal?

Thoughts?

I find this very annoying as well.....
Galway Bay Brewery pubs however do charge half-price for a half (and Spoons of course) but I don't recall any other pubs in Ireland doing the same.

There's a rational reason for charging more pro rata for a half so there's not really much a campaign can do other than highlight pubs where halves are half the price, which is the case in a lot of beer specialists.

The UK is unusual in having this as the norm. It's a nice-to-have for the rest of us.

It's true, this being the norm in the UK is an usual thing. The majority of Europe charges more for less so to speak.

Having said that I would like to be the norm here too!

What really grated me once and I could be wrong in this but years back I was in the Bull & Castle where you could get a 1l,500ml or 330ml glass if I remember correctly. The 1l was exactly double the price of the 500ml (makes sense) but the 330ml was around 15cents more than it should using the same percentages formula. It could be one of those false memories or trying to make numbers mean something when your a bit tipsy without a calculator at hand but it always stuck in my head.
