[quote:1b70u462]Yes and I think super expensive beers should be the exception too. I'd still like to see more exist.[/quote:1b70u462]

Yes it's all about choice, isn't it?
Let there be cheap swill.
Let there be everyday quality beer of various styles at reasonable prices.
Let there be Trappist beers at affordable prices.
Let there be expensive specialty beers.
And let greedy publicans and offie owners not hike up margins just because a beer is not mass market crap.

Good beer costs more to produce and should be more expensive but should have the same profit margin

Yes, true, true and true.

My problem is that I just don't like The Well as a pub unless it's summertime and I'm outside.
Terrible decor, rotten toilets, crap music, no atmosphere. I hate the fact that Cork has only one micro brewery and bar the odd pint of FriarWeiss I can't bring myself to support it.[/quote:wopckroh]

i think that this statement is a bit over the top, the well has some lovely beers and the bar is maybe not the most welcoming but it is certainly more welcoming than most of the crappy "super Pubs" around the city, IMHO there is only one better bar in Cork City and that is the bierhaus, although i will give in to the fact that it is nice to go to the well on a sunny day and just sit and drink (responsibly) outside from 4 till late

To be fair to the well....it aint the decor you go there for if you want to sit in lovely surroundings there are plenty other bars in town ( with macro swill). But they could change a few things to make it more homely but then again their trade is groups / touristy so if it aint broke dont fix . The Bierhaus is the opposite its a real bar nice and relaxed.

It may seem a bit harsh but the liking of one pub over another is subjective. Yes, the Well has some interesting, well made beers but doesn't, in my opinion, have inviting surroundings in which to drink them.
Oh, you won't find me in any 'SuperPubs' either.
What I'm trying to say is that Cork only has one Micro Brewery and it would be great if they put a little effort and expense into making a good pub to work along side it.
I want to like The Well.
