Hi guys,

Just to let you know Bo Bristle Smokey Bacon will hit taps near you this week. Really looking forward to hearing your opinions when/if you get to try it!
Quick info on the beer:

Bo Bristle Smokey Bacon Beer 6.8% ABV

Bo Bristle’s new special brew ‘Smokey Bacon’ uses the finest German speciality malts, including traditional beech smoked malt (Rauchmalz) from Bamberg.

To this they have added American hops, Summit, for that nice bitter bite and some savoury aroma, then Mounthood hops to add a deep rich earthy flavour and some balancing floral notes. We fermented this beer with our very own lager yeast over a seven day period. Once ready, we conditioned the beer for a further 8 weeks to allow all those wonderful characteristics and flavours to develop and mature.

The resulting beer gives a distinctive smoky aroma from the start, it pours a deep red with a creamy head. The flavours, on top of the smoke, are earthy and floral, with a rich sweetness from the malt and all of this is balanced by a sharp acidic bite provided by the summit hops. This beer makes you cry out for more, but beware, at 6.8% it packs a punch! This is the ultimate BBQ beer and can be enjoyed with chicken, steak or ribs, or anything else you decide to stick on that charcoal flame as an excuse to pour yourself another pint of this amazing beer.

Nice! I don't think I've seen an Irish brewer do a smoked lager before. What percentage Rauchmalz did you use?

John,

We used around 20% smoked malt, this was enough to give it a lovely smoked aroma and taste without overpowering the hops in the process.
