Beer Tastings 12 years 6 months ago #1

Hey Guys n Gals
I know that theres alot of you on this site that taste beers and write blogs etc on your experiences,
My question is,

Is it possible to prepare your pallet for the tastings of new beers and cleanse it if tasting multiple styles so as to be able to get the best flavour from each beer?.

In my experiences i can go for a pint of a particular beer one day and it tastes like the best pint ive ever had then on another day it doesnt taste as good.
Sierra Nevada is an example, one day its hoppy but not much else but on another day it has hops and a kind of caramel malty aftertaste which is amazing.

My experiences with beers sometimes are inconsistant and i think its me rather then the beer. Possibly based on certain things ive eaten that day?!?!
So any tips are most welcome!

Cheers

Cream crackers (or something else bland but not too salty or oily) and lots of water.

I think drinking order is important: hops can really take over your palate. I remember having a pint of O'Hara's IPA after a pint of 5am Saint and thinking it tasted like a weissbier.

The Sierra Nevada variation could be a freshness issue too.

Il give the cream crackers a try! Cheers!

Had the Sierra Nevada in Doyles a few weeks ago and it was great then last weekend had another in Doyles and it wasnt as nice. Maybe it is the freshness of it. Anyway, thanks for replying!

Worth mentioning, too, that SNPA is very quietly not the same beer on tap in Europe as it is in bottles - draft Pale Ale here is 5%, as opposed to 5.6% in the bottles, lighter-bodied and a bit less hoppy.
