Shepherd Neame: And the Ultimate Question? 15 years 8 months ago #1

Corkboy1 visits the venerable Kent brewery and tries to get to the bottom of the whole clear glass thing in this new article[/url:2bk1y0o7].

Using clear glass because the customer prefers it, is all fine and well. But it only takes one skunked beer to put the customer off SN for ever.
It's only happened to me once, but I still approach their beers with caution because of it.

If companies are going to use clear glass, then they should package the crates well, and monitor delivery to shops to ensure the beers aren't left in the sun.

What they said in the reply was that marketers preferred it. Says it all I suppose <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I got an almost identical answer when I asked Wells & Young the same thing.

Shep are being disingenuous about the packaging, though, since they ship on low-rise cardboard trays wrapped in clear plastic.

Sounds like you had a good time.
I am a fan of Bishops Finger, the others that I have had are good but a little boring.
I like spitfire* but it too got boring after I expanded my beer horizons.

[size=85:1i2dhgij]*Yeah TBN I now agree with you <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> I still don't care about the name though. <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> [/size:1i2dhgij]

Great article - I have to say I am a great fan of the spitfire. As for the clear bottle thing - I have not got a dodgy bottle yet - so Its not an issue for me.
Great beer - nice earthy twang of it, I have tried several time to brew similar with varing degrees of sucess. I will bring my latest effort along to the next meeting - if I'm about. Anyway well done the article - I'm jealous !
