I have just used the exact same kettle to replace the element in my Electrim boiler. I am wondering about the picture in Step 7 though. Is this safe enough the way it is. My element is working fine but I left the little LED on there to let me know the element is on. However, there is no sheilding, as you can see in Step 7 of the KB article. The phase tester shows nothing live on the outer casing when on but I am just wondering if anyone managed to get some proper casing for this?

My boiler is just a 25l fermenter bin similar to this

fitted with a kettle element . I just drilled a hole and it fitted straight in using the original silicon ring from the kettle. One thing I found was that on some early brews, the cutout was kicking in just before I reached boiling, I had to open up the connector and wire around the cutout using thick (~ 1 mm diameter ) copper domestic wiring cable with the PVC insulation removed. Worked fine ever since, but I need a bigger one. I have a fast boil kettle element (it's like flat plate rather than a coiled up element, they say 3Kw) which I am considering fixing to the bottom of a keg on the outside using conductive paste, leaving the inside of the keg smooth and unobstructed. Has anybody tried anything like this?

Think Dempsey does something slightly similar - he used a ring from a induction hob.
