just so people know- the cheapest kettle available down here is from argos at 7.50. If you're near a NI tesco, their value kettle is 5 pounds so much of a muchness. If anyone knows a cheaper one let me know, I'm going to need a few of them!

Does anyone know if it's ok to plug both elements into the same double socket? I'd be afraid there'd be too much current passing through it.
From a 2kw element you'd have 9.1Amps (Watts/Volts = Amps)going through, and the 1.8kw you'd have 8.2amps = 17.3amps in total to the same socket. My ring main breaker is rated for 20amps, so that's already very close to the max load. Ideally get them onto 2 seperated circuits if possible.
