Carlow 16 years 6 months ago #1

Heading to Carlow this weekend and wondered was there any pubs stocking some decent beers?? I dont see any on the "pubs selling Irish craft beer list" which is suprising as I thought a few places would sell the Carlow Brewing company range. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I think you may be 10 years too late for craft beer in carlow. As far as I know craft beer was driven out by the big boys over the last decade. Try ringing the brewery (now relocated out of town) and I am sure they will be happy to answer your question.

I'm from Carlow originally. I'm sad to say that you have very little chance of any decent beers in Carlow pubs. They don't even stock Carlow beers. You can get a couple of decent beers (and Carlow beers) in Hegarty's of Tullow road. Best to bring something with you!

You were all spot on about Carlow lads. Was interesting though to see most places sold pint bottles of Guinness and Smithwicks.

Thats fairly common in the south east ,Most pubs Waterford , Wexford ,south Kilkenny and Carlow have a good supply of Large Bottles of Guiness ,Smithwicks ,MacArdles , Carling ,Bass etc -usually served with a half pint glass ,I remember when I first ordered a large bottle in Dublin being horrified at the bar man thumping down a big pint glass .I still drink bottled beer from small glasses to this day
