Kinsale Beers in Spar, Merrion Row 19 years 2 months ago #1

Yesterday I spotted 3 Kinsale beers (bottle conditioned) in the Spar on Merrion Row, Dublin 2.

Landers Ale, Cream Stout and 1703 Pilsner. They also had a 5 litre mini keg of Kinsale Lager. Being a Spar prices were extortionate but this may be a sign that craft beers are now becoming more widely available. (They also had 3 beers from Yorkshires's Black Sheep brewery on the shelf)

Mmm. Black Sheep Ale is a favourite of mine.
I've also had the Monty Python Holy (gr)Ail. More than just a gimmick.

Nice to see the Kinsale beers getting out there. I must get my hands on a few.

I haven't tried the Kinsale brews yet but I'm hoping to sample them soon. I thought it might look odd coming back to the office with a handful of beers <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

Black Sheep and Holy Ail were on the shelf along with another of their brews called Riggwelter which I haven't seen before.

One of the local spars here stocks four Shepherd Neame beers, along with a couple of other good beers. I wonder is it a personal choice from the owners, as they're obviously not standard across all spar outlets.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the Kinsale beers. I was worried about the Kinsale brewery; I visited it in 2004, and they had a few decent brews (a wheat, a stout and a lager, I think). But when I went back the next year, all they were brewing was the Kinsale Ale (a pale lager type brew). I'm glad to see that they are offering a few different beers again.

I never think of Spar for shopping; I'll have to reconsider!

There's a Centra on Westland Row that also stocks a reasonable range of English Ales (mostly Shepherd Neame).
