What's Facebook?

In seriousness I would get rid of the page/Facebook presence as it:

a) Affects the brand perception- Facebook pages are now being considered infantile/fadish for marketing.

b) Doubles the effort required to keep refreshing content- Any changes made on the main site have also got to be reflected on th fb page.

c) Seriously impacts SEO. As people just visit the fb page, that means less visitors to the main page and less search attempts. I have one client whose Page Ranking dropped a point because of this.

Twitter is a completely different animal and can be used to drive traffic to a site whereas fb tends to want its users to stay in the yard.

I think it's a great idea to be on FB, and don't think it would it anyway replace the main site. It will be especially good for letting non Beoir people know about events that we are supporting. Not everyone is into twitter, so good to have both options.

If there are Irish breweries and quality retailers on Facebook (which there are) then I think we should be too. Our role on Facebook is to connect the people who are already linked to some of them to the ones they may not be aware of.

Surely it doesn't matter which of our shop windows visitors arrive at: they both serve the same purpose.

I'm not looking for an arguement, but, i wouldn't agree with that Andrew. In my humble opinion, the FB page and the main site will serve different purposes. The FB page will give short, snappy updates and promote Irish Craft beer to potentially a wider audience. Any beoir members who are on facebook should sign up (sorry, "like") and starting spreading the word through their FB contacts......

The main page for me is always going to have more in-depth information and a discussion- that's the place I'll always go to when I have yet another inane question that only the Beoir forumistas can solve.
