Oak barrels 18 years 5 months ago #1

A neighbour wants to get rid off three oak barrels (two 7gal and one 14gal). He has wine in them at the moment so I don´t really know how appropiate is that for beer conditioning once they´re clean. Anyway, if someone is interested I can put you in contact.

Forgot to mention they are free.

barrel aging is becoming a popular, but you would need to know the species country and age of the wood.

it can be labor intensive method with keeping the wood wet with water when it not full with wine/beer, which also need to changed regular.

also the barrel will need to be toped up with beer every few weeks due to evaporation , if you don't what oxidation

but that been said it can add a interesting layer to the beer, but you could also add oak chips/cubes to give a similar effect

No idea about that but I can find out.

Yes, it can be labour intensive, a few days empty and a barrel can begin to leak afterwards. I´d say it would give the beer an interesting character though.
