Hi Folks
Relay for Life Tipperary is taking place in Toomevara this weekend, and HomeBrew.ie wants to support this worthy cause. So from now till Sunday 5% of all takings will be donated to this charity, supporting the work of the Irish Cancer Society.
Below is a press release giving information about the event.
Trevor Hogan, the former Munster, Leinster and Ireland Rugby international will officially open Relay for Life Tipperary at 5pm this Saturday at St Michael’s GAA Park in Toomevara. At the heart of Relay is the opportunity to celebrate cancer survivors and to remember those who have left us. This is a very special 24-hour, community celebration and a unique, empowering and fun event, with something for people and of all ages, so everybody is invited to come and join in the fun and activities.
Well over 1,000 people will participate, between survivors, carers and team members. This year 50 teams from all over the county will walk the track for the full 24 hours and engage in the periodic fun laps. In addition, many teams are organising interesting goings-on in their marquees which will add to the fun and interest for participants and spectators alike. And throughout the event, continuous entertainment is provided. All kinds of musicians, groups and dancers will perform during the event while for the children there will be events such as Go Karts on Saturday evening, with art, Sun Flower show, face-painting and mono-printing among the activities for Sunday.
Relay for Life is all about raising consciousness about preventing and dealing with cancer as well as fund raising to support research and the provision of cancer services in the county (last year’s event raised well over 100,000 euro). Margaret Walsh from the organising committee says “cancer survivors are the VIPs of Relay and play a central role in the whole event – every survivor is an inspiration to those who are still fighting the disease, and to their loved ones for whom this can be such a worrying time”. The survivors lap which takes place at 5pm on Saturday and the Candle of Hope ceremony at 10pm are two of highlights of the event, and the organisers are hoping for a big turnout for those.
So, overall, there is a very interesting, informative and fun weekend ahead in Toomevara, with something for all the family. So, why not come along and see for yourself and join in the exuberance and excitement of the event.
