Looking for pressure barrels - loaners or second hand to buy 15 years 1 month ago #1

Well, pretty much exactly what it says in the subject line really. My wedding is coming up soon, and I'm planning on providing the beer rather than getting a bar. Séan's brewed some porter, and I'm going to brew.....something, and John's been asked but I'm not sure how seriously he took the request. However, I've nowhere to put the beers for storage and transport.

Séan had a pressure barrel he was going to put his offering in, but it won't clean up; TBN I think bottles all his, and bottles are quite a pain to transport; I'm still an infrequent and small-batch brewer (and likely to remain so for a while as I don't drink enough) so while I'm happy to buy one pressure barrel, I can't justify the expense of 3 or 4 as I wouldn't have any future use for them.

So, would anyone have any pressure barrels they're not using, or using infrequently, that they would be willing to either lend me for 4-5 months, or sell me second hand? It would really be much appreciated and would mean I could do what I really want for my wedding and provide the beer, rather than having to have a hire bar.

I dont have a pressure barrel to loan (a few mini kegs if theyre any use)..... but i was wondering where you're having your wedding....no i dont want to gate-crash (although ill have to have a look at the menu before making a final decision on that)but.....

Is it in a hotel or are you having it privately? just interested to know if there is a place allowing you to bring your own beer.

We're having it at Polhawn Fort in Cornwall (www.polhawnfort.com). It's a self-catering venue, so since you've to arrange all caterers yourself anyway, they could hardly object to you bringing beer ;)

There are more self-catering civil venues in the UK than there are in Ireland, as they've had licensed civil venues for longer (and are far bigger), but there are plenty here too. Cloghan Castle in Galway and Lisnavagh House in, um, somewhere....Carlow? Kilkenny?... are two places we looked at.

Regarding the mini-kegs - possibly. Someone who knows more than me about kegging would have to tell me if they'd be suitable

I was at a wedding reception in Drimnagh Castle once that was entirely self catering.

I have a top tap king keg which i hate.
Some of those little co2 chargers and the holster as well.

You can have it for a tenner and postage ( i'm in the sticks so fastways couriers is probably the only way to go )

PM me if you want it.

Not sure what total quantity or number of beer varieties you're looking for but Corney Kegs would definitely be an option and would provide 20-21L of beer per keg; they can also be wrapped in sheets of high R value insulation and will keep cool for a while because of the quantity of liquid and the insulation...

-They can be bought very cheaply from the US if you have time to wait on shipping, and can generally be sold at least for what you paid for them including shipping because they're so much cheaper in the states...

-The resale value is pretty high on these things you could also buy a whole setup from Norm on Ebay and then resell them after the wedding. (Just one more idea.)
