grain mill...quick loan of??? 15 years 2 months ago #1

I need to mill about 4 or 5 kg of grain any time before Sunday morning.
As i am short on homebrewed beer (actually ive none at all), i wont be able to keep up the time honoured tradition of giving homebrew in exchange.
But i have a pile of good craft beers in storage which i would be only too willing to give a selection of.
Im in south dublin - ill be anywhere between tallaght and killiney over the weekend - so anywhere close to them would be great.
Alternatively im open to any suggestions of how i may mill the grain in a more labourious manner with things id find about the house.
Thanks.

In a pinch , put it in a Blender or smoothie maker or food processor , Pulse for 5 secs stop pulse again over and over until it looks close to what you'd normally expect a crush to look like .

Pulsing is to ensure you don't burn out the motor and also stops from burning the starches as the grain starts turning to flour .

PITA takes ages, leads to a gooey mash , doesn't provide a good grain bed for your runnings, and isn't as efficient .

But , you'll be able to make beer with it .

Thanks for that wallace - Im brewing in a bag - does that make any of thos problems you outlined look a little bit better?

Edit:
Just found this[/url:3ekhu9uz] on northern brewer - a guy who uses the method you mentioned.

At least, worst case i can brew without the mill - and biab does hide some of the problems that may arise.

Yeah

My first 5 or 6 brews were done this way, I mash in Muslin all the time so it is a bit more forgiving on the bad crush than a copper manifold migh be .

I'm in Rathfarnham. You could pop by and mill it here. Pm me and we can organise it.
