Hi All,

I did my first extract last weekend and am following it up this weekend with my second, only issue is that I cooked the probe on my digi thermometer. It's looking like I had it too deep in the wort while boiling and long story short I was wondering why despite immersion chiller that my wort was not going below 42 degrees, when I removed the probe the thermometer is now stuck on 39 degrees, so it won't go lower.
I need a new one, any idea where I can get such a thing in a bricks and mortar shop?

That looks great.
I used a probe that I got with my multimeter, but the steam/moisture seemed to impair it's function; I had it dangling in the boiler to monitor the temp. The MM works fine still, but I had to resort to an old fashioned yoke to measure the temp - couldn't understand why the temp wasn't rising above 65 despite the fact it was steaming away - turns out it was actually around 95 at the time!
Will look for that next time in Ikea too - love the fact that it's a timer too.

Yeah same with mine, they don't seem to like when you dip the probe completely, I'd imagine the wort is working it's way into the wires and destroying the function.
Next one, only the probe will enter the liquid, not the wire and all.

i did have only the probe in the water though. least I thought i did anyway!
