If anyone is in waterford there's a guy who had a bricks and motar shop on the quay but now he operates from his house. He has a poor enough selection of hops and grains as he orders these in as needed but is great for washers, buckets, kegs, brushes, thermometers etc... Very nice guy also.

Well, Donal has just joined the site and is finding his feet. I am sure he will be posting to tell everyone more about his shop, and of course to get feedback from the community.

"Donals shop in athlone" is his very appropriate username! Welcome Donal! Is this Ireland's first physical shop since Grapes 'n' Grain closed in Ranelagh?

Hi every body its Donal its true that I have opened a shop in athlon. but what Alexander taipan said is wrong sorry alex I don’t mean to correct you but it wasn’t me you met in the shop it was my friend sean and he is supposed to ring me if anyone has questions. he helps out from time to time (but maby not after this). I was out putting up posters around town and yes I will agree that I don’t know everything my basic foundation is that my dad has been making wine from fresh ingredients that he picks himself for as long as I can remember. And I have tried a few that way aswell ive done a lot of kits easy I know. I am learning as much as I can as fast as I can.

The other thing is that 25litre fermentation vessel is only €13.95 not over €20 and I do have 33litre fermentation vessels and if you really want I can get 60liter vessels

True I have no grain no hops or good yeast but when I opened I had no idea that so many ppl were still doing it even my father has stoped and everyone said the same I opened with the idea of bigenners in mind but hey im in business if I want to survive I will evolve and change or incress my stock range to suit the need of my custmors whom i hope to be frindly with

Please don’t write me off just yet

best of luck with it, i'm sure if you want to post what you have and the price people will be happy with that. similar to what drinkstore[/url:1b6g4itu] does.

Hi Donal, i do apologise for writing you off, when i read back on it now it doesn't sound very nice. It's understandable when you start off that you might have a limited stock. I would advise that you sell dry malt extract instead of sugar with your beer kits if you can and there will be a greatly improved chance of your customers returning again and again. Also if you could stock some Fermentis yeasts, s04 and us 05 would be a great place to start and if you could convince your kit buyers to replace the kit yeast with one of them it will greatly improve the finished product although it is hard to get people to spend more money!! It would be an idea to stock quality kits (3kg) that don't require any sugar. Hops would require you to have a freezer in the shop so i understand why you don't stock them at the beginning but if you could stock some 500g bags of specialiaty malts and a couple of 3kg bags of crystal malt it would be great and add another dimension to the shop.
Best of luck with your venture i'll definitely be giving you a shout again very soon <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
