Wanted Beer Crates 17 years 2 weeks ago #1

Hi New to Site Currently using Spaten / German type bottle with crown cap interested in a couple of crates to store them.

Yes actually I was going to ask the same question. The crates I have are the fold down ones and apart from the fact they are not stackable, even if they were the 500ml bottles would be too tall.

I picked up a few from a closed down pub they were just left out the side....its not really theft...[size=75:1xwc9ec6]( well thats my story and im sticking to it) [/size:1xwc9ec6]...there's enough pub closures going on for a nice bit of scavaging......

if you can't get them from a pub you can easily knock together crates out of wood. I made some from some cheap timber, I also made a couple from some crappy plywood I pulled out of a skip. Figure out how many bottles you want it to hold, figure the dimensions, leave a little more than you think you need, a cm or so each way, then make some dividers out of cardboard. drill holes and make rope handles.

You have me thinking Richie I migh try local wine shop for empty wooden cases

Well I am a big fan of wine boxes, I grow lettuce and rocket in the garden in them, neater than growbags. Also they can be used as bookshelves when turned on their sides. Not deep enough for most bottles, but you could use a second one to raise the sides of one higher. probably they could also use some reinforcement as even the best of them tend to have flimsy bottoms. what might be best is gather a couple, dismantle them and cut them to the sizes you need and put them back together as sturdy crates. Another idea is get the wood from a pallet. that would give you a no-nonsense crate for sure. maybe a little heavy.
