Mead: Dublin Beekeepers Honey Show 18 years 6 months ago #1

The Honey Show is on in Christ Church Hall, Rathgar on Sat 3rd of November.

Craft Exhibition and Sale.
Open from 12 - 4

I am hoping this might be a good source of honey for my next batch of mead.

I noticed there is a mead category in the exhibition and the prize is sponsored by grape n grain. there is a seperate one for melomel's and methelin's. I wonder if there will be any for sale?

Hmm, that sounds like a nice afternoon out back around my old haunts. I've never actually tasted Mead! Might take a walk over and get a couple of bottles for Crimbo season.

The Honey Show is one of the best places to get your honey in fact. I was at this event last year and picked up 20lbs of honey at €5 per pound. Not cheap but it's some of the best honey around. Makes a good traditional mead.

They have on offer the regular 'wildflower' honey and also smaller pots of heather honey, worth a free sample though not my preference.

The mead competition is open to members of the Dublin Beekeepers Association only although it doesn't involve much to become a member. €7 membership fee per year I think. And sadly it's not for sale. There are also some bee-related products for sale - candles, furniture polish, hand creams and things. An interesting visit that shouldn't take long really. Just bring a strong bag!

Never had a bottle Adeptus? I might have to sort you out...

I'm working that day, but I plan to send some minions to get me some honey. I've wanted to try a mead for a while. Don't even know what the stuff tastes like, it just seems fascinating.
