How about a blind taste test of cider? We have tried most styles of beer you can get in Ireland so how about a go at apple wine? We would have to go with sweet ciders I think as these are more available and are the ones the majority of people drink.

I think the ciders would be
1. "Premium" Cider - Bulmers
2. Good Cider - Something French
3. Crap Cheapo Cider - Devils bit or somesuch
4. Quality Cheapo Cider - Something from Aldi or Lidl.
5. An Irish Craft Cider - David Llewlyns
6. Homeberw Cider- I think one of Taf, Eoins or a few other peoples cider could go toe to toe with any of these.

How about Aspell's where would that fit in? Is six ciders too many. What five wold you pick?

Are you up for trying this?

I'd be up for a go, but I need to get a new brew of graff on this weekend which I'd put up, the last one is almost gone in the keg and got a little oxidised from a glug early on.
That'd make it a month at least away before I'd have anything passable.

I'd vote for linden village to be in the mix there somewhere

And what ever happened to scrumpy jack ?

( BTW , you should probably provide helmets body armour and boxing gloves as after all that mix of the Johnny jump up things could get , ehhh , heated !! )

Best of luck with it !!

That sounds great Eoin. So about a months time. All we need now is a venue,a crowd of people and to pick the ciders. I think the possible ciders is limited enough that we might as well list all of them before the event.

I presume the test is simply to find the best as few people claim to be cider snobs?

Yeah we are going to rename the different drinking sections from "beer number 1" to "Cider round 1" and have a bell on the table.

So what tramp juice cider should we use? And where does Johnny jump up stand on this taxonomy? It seems the same as Bulmers but does not sponsor a sporting event so cannot be classed as "premium"

Id be up for this if it can be done on either the 10th or the 17th. I can bring along some samples of mixed fruit cider, not for taste tests, more just to see what people think of it.
My 5 ciders of choice would be (in order how I expect they will poll)
1) Good
2) Homebrew
3) Irish Commercial
4) Cheapo (I dont think it makes any difference if its Lidls or Spars)
5) Premium (its important people know how badly they do in blind tasting)

<pretence of politeness>
Can we start the cider fuelled trash-talk now?

Bulmers couldn't make cider even if they added apples to their "Time" recipe, And Bulmers' mother's so fat, animals at the zoo feed her
