Brewery Visit to taste the new Porterhouse Summer Beer. 17 years 10 months ago #1

Hi All,
The Porterhouse have been in contact and would like to tell us all about the new beer they will be releasing for the summer.

In response to growing interest in American style pale ales the Porterhouse has decided to resurrect a beer from our past. Based on a beer brewed somewhat ahead of its time, in our brewpub days, Hop Head is a highly aromatic, bitter, pale ale, made with the intention of satisfying the hop heads amongst us. Amber coloured, with a distinct malt character, generous use of hops for bittering and the triple addition of cascade and Hallertau Northern Brewer hops gives a conspicuous citrus character for both aroma and flavour. Along with a slightly higher alcohol content this results in a rich, fruity beer with oily, citrus hop character and wonderfully rich, full mouthfeel.

ABV 4.7%

Malts:
Pale Ale Malt
Crystal Malt
Wheat Malt
Black Malt

Hops:
Pilgrim (UK)
Nuggett (US)
Cascade (US)
Hallertau Northern Brewer (Germany)[/quote:10oza10j]

Furthermore, they would like to give us the opportunity to try this beer before it is released on an unsuspecting public and, to this end, have invited us to visit the brewery in Blanchardstown (Dublin 15).

The brewery visit will be at 7pm, on Wednesday the 11th of June and I am not sure what kind of restrictions apply to numbers so register your interest early.

Who wants to visit the porterhouse brewery then?

I do!

I would love to, the date might be problematic but if possible I'll be there.

I'm in. We might be best meeting in the city centre and getting a taxi. Or several.

Anyone think, from the description, that this beer is intended to compete with a certain other Irish ale?

Sounds like it, a strange move considering they stock the other ale. But does 'Summer Beer' mean it will only be a seasonal?

The date could be [i:2qntrroe]very [/i:2qntrroe]problematic, but I'd love to try and make it.

Black malt, eh? What colour is this beer?

And well done Galway Hooker for shaking the big guys.

I imagine the percentage of black malt is minimal.
