Winter Ales & Cask Festival - Cork 2016 - Judging 10 years 4 months ago #1

For this years festival, we are running a festival competition. We will be judging beer and dishing out awards.

The details have yet to be finalised but the festival looks like it will run from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st of January. A little different than previous years.

The idea would be to start judging on Saturday. It would only take a few hours.

I'm looking for volunteers to judge and also help steward the competition. Since most of the beer being judged will be on draught, it should be as simple as grabbing a pitcher from a brewery.

Local Cork judges will be useful but anyone travelling down that will be there early enough will be appreciated.

If you are interested, stick your name down below.

I would like to judge of course...leaving kick-off until Saturday may mean some entries have already been finished?

True but I can't expect people to take time off during the week so it's up to brewers to have their entries for Saturday.
Evening judging just won't work due to crowds.

i know that...but isn't it shane(or fran well staff) who decides when beers go on & not the brewers? all cask competitions I've been involved in take beer from freshly broached casks; leaving them for 2 days means the beers won't be at their best and give faster turnover beers an unfair advantage. Brewers can't be expected to not have beers for sale otherwise they run the risk not being able to sell all before end of fest. Logistics much trickier for cask V bottle or keg judging

Actually isn't it the Fran Well who decide what beers are bought?
Unless the format is changing this year to that of the Easterfest where brewers run their own bar?
