Craft Beer Suggestions in Dublin for US Beer Writers 13 years 3 weeks ago #1

Hello,

We created and write for a beer centric website (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.BeerLovesCompany.com">www.BeerLovesCompany.com). We will be visiting Dublin from April 1st-8th. We have already received a few recommendations on where we should visit/review for the site but we are always in the market for more. We are part of two homebrew clubs here as well so we would be interested in visiting a homebrew shop if possible as well and we would not mind stopping in an "off" license shop too. Our site is about beer, pairings, travel, events and culture so anything to fit in those segments would be great.

Here are the suggestions we received from Sean Billings (chair of Beoir.org):

For lively places with great beer The Bull & Castle and The Porterhouse (Parliament Street). A little more sedate: The Black Sheep and W. J. Kavanagh's. A must visit for food (call and book a table) L Mulligan Grocers.

We appreciate any help the community may be able to provide us. We hope to be able to represent Dublin well with our writing. Have a fantastic week.

Séan has suggested all of the good spots for beer, there are a few more and I'd recommend the app Andrew developed, just search for beoirfinder for finding your way around.

If you're interested in meeting some homebrewers, there is a homebrew meetup in the Lucan county on Saturday at 14:00. [url:7e9p5lpr]http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1362736670[/url:7e9p5lpr]

Enjoy Dublin!

I think you've got a great set of recommendations there from Sean; the people who own the Black Sheep also own two other craft pubs in the city: Against the Grain (Wexford Street) and the Brew Dock (by Connolly Station) - the formula in all of these is fairly similar, but the tap list often varies a little between the pubs, so it's worth checking them all out if you have the time!

Plus, if you're looking to buy a few beers to have in the hotel room (or if you're looking for a few rarer bottles at a cheaper price) then I'd recommend looking at the website of the bottle shop Drinkstore in Stoneybatter: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.drinkstore.ie/">www.drinkstore.ie/

It's got a great selection (if the beer is in Ireland, it'll be at Drinkstore!) and is just opposite L Mulligan Grocer!

Hope you have a great time, and if you fancy a pint at any point then do send me a message - always happy to chat beer!

Cheers,

Alex

Thanks Padraig, the cheque's in the post...

I'd add J.W. Sweetman to the list (as it's Dublin's only BrewPub) and it does offer their own craft beer. And Port (South William Street or Templebar) for Porterhouse beers and tapas.

Padraic, Alex and Andrew,

Thank you all very much for the informative replies. We are very much looking forward to visiting as many of the places you each suggested as we can. If possible we will try to link up with the home brewers but it may not be realistic with our timeframe. We have downloaded the iOS app and are eager to give it a try. We neglected to say Sean suggested we download it in his reply to us (may have to redirect that check Andrew). Thank you all again very much for the tips. We hope we do Dublin justice when we write up our experiences on <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="www.beerlovescompany.com">www.beerlovescompany.com

One last query, are any breweries (other than Guinness and J.W. Sweetman) accessible easily from Dublin? Do breweries in Ireland have tasting rooms and tours? We will not have a car but will travel a bit to get to a brewery if it is open to the public and we can work it into our schedule. Thank you all again for the help. We have really found this site to be very interesting and informative. We especially found the forum listing on cask beer to be quite entertaining with tons of useful information. Thanks!
