Bars in Edinburgh 18 years 5 months ago #1

Hi lads, i'm off to scotland for e few days next week, but haven't had time look up some good bars / restaurants.
Iwould appreciate any advice from the travellers (not the cream cracker type) among us.

Cheers

IMO, the best pubs in Edinburgh are (in no particular order):

Bow Bar, Victoria Street
Halfway House, Fleshmarket Close
Berts Bar, William Street (tell Dave the landlord I sent you)
Thomsons Bar, Morrison Street
Guildford Arms, West Register Street
Kays Bar, Jamaica Street
Oxford Bar, Young Street (Ian Rankin's regular)
Cloisters, Brougham Street
Cumberland Bar, Cumberland Street
Blue Blazer, Bread Street.

While there are lots of pubs on Rose Street, most of them are more for the tourist than the beer lover but the best of the bunch is probably Milnes Bar.

There are also a number of pubs the Broughton Street and the best are the Barony Bar and the Cask & Barrel.

Also recommended is the Goth at Prestonpans and "Staggs" at Musselburgh.

Your message title says Edinburgh but the text refers to Scotland so I have to recommend the following Glasgow pubs (Glasgow is only 1 hour from Edinburgh by train):

Bon Accord, North Street
State Bar, Holland Street
Clockwork Beer Company, Cathcart Road (near Hampden Park)
Tennents Bar, Byres Road (where there are also a number of other good pubs - get the underground to Hillhead)
Three Judges, Dumbarton Road (also near an underground station but I've forgotten which one. Kelvinhall maybe?)

I've never been there, but BTW (Behind the Wall) in Falkirk (~half way between Edinburgh and Glasgow, nearer Falkirk Grahamstown than Flakirk High) is apparently good and which I believe regularly has Tryst ales on sale brewed by Scottish Craft Brewers member John McGarva.

Have fun.

Cheers, Les
