-Patrick Punch's, Punch's Cross, has a good selection of Carlow bottles. The manager told me that they would soon be trialing Galway Hooker on draft. While they are located a bit out of town, the trip can always be broke by a stop at the historic South's.
-The Glen Tavern, 1 Lower Glentworth St, has White Gypsy's Ruby on tap. The manager say's that he is delighted at how well it has been received.
Micky Martins has a few interesting beers also and to be fair, most bars have some sort of weizen on tap or at the very least, in pint bottles.
Fair play to The Glen with White Gyspy, I've had a few myself and like you said, they're very happy with the flow and it looks like they'll continue to order it in.
I must ask now if they have had any contact from any other breweries or if there would be sufficient interest
This statement is vital. This beer revolution will have to be demand led. If people keep asking and/or demanding better beer the publicans will have to listen.
And really at the risk of being like a broken record player, i can't stress enough how much the publicans would love to not be at the mercy of Diageo. They HATE Diageo
I am reliably informed that Doctor Johns Bar upstairs at 31 Thomas St. stocks Porterhouse on tap. Also that down stairs in the Blind Pig (live music venue) a range of other craft beers are available.
Dr.Johns, upstairs at 31 Thomas St. is a small one room bar. Dr.John is an interesting character who refuses to deal with the big two or the other crowd in Clonmel.
Porterhouse Plain @ €3.80. Peroni and Fisher on tap and Sheperd Neame bottles including 1698. Broadoak cider in bottles. Give it a go. (I am in no way involved)
