Bar/ Cafe wise I can very highly recommend Brugse Beertje <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="www.brugsbeertje.be/index_en.htm">www.brugsbeertje.be/index_en.htm in Bruges and if you like a more studenty, cool spot, with a spectacular menu of beers, Delerium www.deliriumcafe.be/">www.deliriumcafe.be/ in Brussels. Beer wise, I'm a big fan of Trappistes Rochefort, particularly the 10. Also worth trying Gueuze - quite sour and not everyones cup of tea. Belgian ale is very much my thing and i reckon you'll have an amazing trip.

has anyone done an organised tour, or do you just generally go to brussels and hit the local cafes?

here's one that I'm looking at [url:1crgqp58]http://www.bier-mania.com/index_files/09as.htm[/url:1crgqp58]

A bit of research on the likes of BeerMapping, RateBeer etc and then sort myself out. Lots of good book[/url:1i9u7t8m]s on the subject too.

I'd heard[/url:1i9u7t8m] Beer Mania had stopped doing tours. Maybe he's started again. If you're interested in visiting lots of breweries some sort of organised tour might be a good idea -- most of the cool breweries are quite inaccessible. Stupid monks...

Personally I could spend quite a lot of time just between the pubs and restaurants Brussels and Bruges, throwing in Ghent and Antwerp if time allows. Travelling between them all by train is really easy too.
