Another corner-of-death pub hoping that going upmarket is the key to survival. A well-thought-out menu, decent wine list and a beer selection including Duvel, Chimay Red, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Brooklyn Lager and Weihenstephaner Hefeweiss bottled, plus Porterhouse Red and Oyster on draught. It's great to see Irish craft beer creeping out into the suburbs.

That's good to see. Can you remember what that pub was in it's former life?

Most recently The Lantern, formerly The Bugler Dunne.

Superb news. Hope this breaks the cycle of misery for that location (along the lines of Against the Grain). That area has been crying out for a decent pub for some time.

Nice refurb, cozy vibe with lots of space.

But is Porterhouse Red supposed to be on nitro?

Sean MacD's, Harold's Cross, Dublin 6 15 years 3 weeks ago #6

Yep. It was created in response to the nitro-red craze of the mid-1990s. I think it's much more bitter than it was back then, but the nitro remains.
