I'm coming over to Dublin on the weekend of 5th/6th/7th November, and will most likely be in Howth around lunchtime on the Sunday. There's a Formula 1 race on from 3pm to 6pm on the Sunday, and I was hoping I might find a bar either in the Howth area, or back in the city centre, that would show the race and still have decent beers to drink.

Anyone got any tips, or if no-one knows of one, what might be my best way of locating a bar showing this?

I doubt you'll have trouble finding the race in the pubs of Howth, but there won't be any decent beer.

Depending on what else is on sportswise, your best bets in the city centre are The Bull & Castle, Messrs Maguire and Porterhouse Central. The latter has several screens so is likely to be showing it somewhere.

Is there anywhere you'd recommend at all in Howth - e.g. even if I had to make do with sipping wine or cocktails while watching the race, at least with decent surroundings?

Going to ask the Porterhouse as well but I suspect they may be too busy to put the race on, more likely to be football or it's variations they'd show perhaps?

It's hard enough to find anywhere showing a race in England, not sure what my chances will be in Dub that weekend!

The Abbey Tavern in Howth is quite nice, as is the Bloody Stream under the station but it's always packed any time I go past. Though I wouldn't bet on there being drinkable wine or cocktails in either.

Managed to contact O'Neills and apparently they'll definitely be showing the race and should have some decent craft draught/keg/bottles in stock at the time, so I'll park my ass there for Sunday afternoon I think! Thanks for the tips on Howth though as we may make it out there for lunch on Monday instead.

Watched the race in O'Neills in the end - they were very good at reserving a table and putting it on in the upstairs window alcove area, there was quite a crowd of spectators in the end!

While there I sampled the Galway Hooker, Rebel Red, Blarney Blonde lager (which was quite nice for a lager, which wouldn't normally be to my taste), the Trouble Or, and some draught Paulaner. Not bad, though I wish the Hooker had been cask. Never mind, just pleased to have a decent enough selection and a good view of the race coverage!
