TOPIC:

New (possible) Roscommon beer bar / brewpub rumour 15 years 8 months ago #1

Right this is just a rumour passed on to me by my wife who heard it from someone she works with (from Roscommon) who in turn heard it from someone else... You know how these things are.

Anyway the gist of it is that there is talk of either a beer bar serving craft beer or a brewpub being opened.

I do not know where in Roscommon but if anyone from that area has heard some talk then please share.

If I had to make up a story I would say that the hooker boys are going the way of Porterhouse and opening a tied pub <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> Obviously that is not the case though <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->

haha <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

That one came a long way - i bet the original story started out as this
"a beer bar serving craft beer" = "a queer bar serving crap beer"

Would that be a Chinese-whisper version of there's a brewery opening in Roscommon, which is now of course old news (Galway Hooker, 2007)?

No this was specific to a pub. The person who told my wife's colleague was "not in favour of it" because apparently the pub will be full of "crusties"??

Never heard of a Crustie before but it was explained (third hand again) as a bunch of Farmers pretending to be urban and hip drinking craft beer?

Crusties are the English new age traveller types, and to be honest they're more into selling yokes at outdoor raves and drinking special brew, a la "special brew crew", than they are into drinking craft beers.

I am down in Roscommon regularly. A new pub has indeed opened on Castle street Roscommon town, but divil the sign of any craft beer in it. It's hard enough to come by a pint of Hooker in the town where it's brewed (only in Gleesons town house as far as I know; more of a restaurant than a pub).

I'll keep my ears open though; we can but hope!
