Two new brews... 18 years 9 months ago #1

Here's what we got in today, Goose Island Summertime €2.99 and Fuller's Vintage Ale €9.95 (we had that a little while back)..

The Goose Island I really liked, I much prefer it over the Sierra Nevada Summerfest

I thought it was solid, good on a nice hot day in place of a typical lager. Not the best kolsch I've had though

What year is the Fullers Vintage?

Wasn't a big fan to be honest. too clean! but thats the whole point of it! just prefer something a little heavier and wholesome

Cypressbob, you've listed Drie Fontenien oude gueuze on your favourites list, also one of mine. When I was in Belgium earlier this year I visited the brewery restaurant and got to meet the brewer himself, Armand. It was completey by chance really. He was meeting two brewers from Russian River Brewery (US) and we all got talking over rabbit and pheasant gueuze stew. He invited us all to his warehouse so we all bailed into his Merc and off we went, half-cut of course!!

The lambic he sells are blends of other breweries gueuze and we got to sample some of these in their unblended forms, all very interesting and quite complex in themselves but blending them together is Armands real skill. As you know yourselve, his gueuze is fantastic.

I'd love to source it in Ireland. Have you seen it anywhere?

They are 2006...

As for the Goose Island Summertime, it's not my favourite beer in the world but i still stand by what said. Definitely a beer i would happily drink on a nice day. Not really a typical Kolsch though i suppose, but to find an example in the strict sence of the style, its going to be hard enough to come by...
