Actons Pub in Wicklow...with their own microbrewery?? 12 years 3 months ago #7

Just to resurrect this. Was there last weekend and had a chat with one of the barmen. He told me that "Gypsy something" was written on the kegs.

So I wandered past where they usually stash their empty kegs. Turns out the beers are White Gypsy's Blond and Ruby (not nitrogenated).

Here's where it gets interesting- I'm pretty sure that they were rebadging Porterhouse's black lager (Bohemia?). Now it's back to WG's Ruby but it's still being touted as a black lager (when it's obviously a red).

Ah, but previously they had a common or garden pale lager which i thought may be templebrau.

The time I was there the barman told me they had a lager that was "like a homebrew Carlsberg". <!-- s:| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_neutral.gif" alt=":|" title="Neutral" /><!-- s:| -->

Had the Weiss instead.

You are possibly right. I'm pretty sure that they were getting their beers from the Porterhouse for awhile. I had a very brief discussion with the proprietor of Brooklodge but didn't really get any info (him: "you are wrong" [about notbrewing onsite]. Me: "Show me")

Still, it has precedent- They used to pass off Brew#1 as their own brew...
