Lost Irish Beers 18 years 9 months ago #1

Since I visted Biddy Early's last week. I was thinking about the Dublin Brewing Co and have followed the other threads.

The best lost Irish beer in my opinion is Revolution Red.

So lets get a thread going about the other lost Irish beer Craft and non Craft.

I also miss The Franscian Wells Belringer never to be brewed again.

Was that their winter warmer/ old ale and why?

As well as Revolution, I really miss Maeve's. It was the perfect curry beer.

Occasionally I miss Breó, if only for its oddness. When looking for a draught weiss it'd be nice to have some choice beyond Erdinger.

Does anyone else remember the St. James's Gate range? They were Guinness' short-lived foray into craft brewing.

Belringer is meant to be 6.5abv, when last brewed. But came out a bit stronger. Non regulars were not able to handle it, a few incidents in the pubs after 3 or 4 pints

I remember they were available in only a few bars, so myself and n1mbus went into The Duke (I think) and tried them all in one night. There were tasting forms which we filled in for them, popping them into a box on the bar, and as a result were invited to St. James's Gate for a "Brewers Tasting Evening" where you could chat to the brewers, taste new beers called X, Y and Z, and then got a free bar with the Jazz Band playing and grub being passed around. On leaving for the free shuttle bus back into the city centre we got presented with wooden St. James's Gate pens (which I no longer have). It was a bloody good night, but to be honest, I don't remember what the beers tasted like! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->
