Porterhouse North 15 years 11 months ago #1

Was in the porterhouse north yesterday with my wife and young fella for a bite to eat and a few pints while watching the Liverpool game. Haven't been in there in a few years and I used to really like the place, however yesterday was very dissapointing.

First of all the service was terrible, both from the floor staff and bar staff, when we got there about 1 there were only a few poeple there but the service was still unbelievably slow.

To add insult to injury they did not have any hophead or hersbrucker on draught, also when I asked for a few beers from their bottle menu they had none (Butte Creek, Sam Adams).

Hev to say the food was lovely, but the service would make me think twice about going again any time soon.

Anybody else have similar a experience or did I just catch them on a bad day?

Porterhouse has always had terrible service in my opinion. If it wasn't for their range of beers I'd never be in the place

I'm closer to Porterhouse North now, but still prefer to goto the Parliament St. location for their beer choices if I can. As indicated by halite, it seems as though they are out of HopHead and some of their bottle choices at the North location more often. I'd reckon that fewer people goto the North location for their beer selection.

The Porterhouse North used to be a lot better than it is now. They put in a Guinness tap and a Heineken tap a while back to increase turnover and you can't argue with that. Their decision and it doesn't affect me.

What bothers me is that they took out the handpump so no more TSB and there hasn't been any Hophead on since before the festival of Irish beer. The bottle selection was never as good as in town, but these days it is worse than ever, with more space going to 33cl macro beers and less to world beers. The beer menu is effectively a work of fiction these days, you really have to go and look at the fridges to see what they really have. I have been drinking Headless Dog in there recently, because it is consistently available. It's a nice beer, but I prefer to mix it up a bit.

The food is still great, but at this stage that is the only reason I go there and if the beer selection doesn't improve they are going to loose a very old and regular customer.

Sad to say PH North has being going steadily downhill on the beer front for some time now.
