I have often went out to the well with friends who usually only drink Guiness or Bud. They have no quams drinking shandon stout or any other or the well brews. I think your average guinness drinker is not drinking it for brand loyalty but because they noramlly go to run of the mill pubs that throw up regulation slop only. I usually suggest the well for wrk nights out and rarely get shot down. Same recently with the bierhaus....if it aint there they will drink whatever ...they dont have taste buds anyway.. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt="" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->
So I finally tried OHaras last night, and despite the fact that oddbins had it in the freezer and it was icy cold, it was indeed delicious. Actually reminded me a bit of a coopers stout kit i made a while back. Lovely aftertaste.
I agree Beamish is a fine pint. I think they kind of shot themselves in the foot by trying to price it below everything else. All the guiness "connesuers" wouldnt even try it , so fine are their taste buds... these are the same people who will complain about the price of a micro brew if its a few cent over the fizzy piss.. Seems your damned if you charge over or under the status quo set by the big guns.
I agree Beamish is the best of the big 3 stouts. I think their lower price is a huge selling point as it got the oul' fellas drinking it all over the country which in turn got the taps flowing. Their sales have jumped since they undercut Guinness & Murphy's and they have now overtaken Murphy's into the number two slot. If I'm in an old man's pub I'll plump for Beamish every time. A lot of Guinness drinkers are sold on the image and will be reluctant to desert the brand no matter what.
