Ah Berlin, what a great city. I lived there for a month last summer and while the stuff produced by the big local breweries (Berliner Pils, Schultheis etc.) isn't to excitin, I could certainly recommend the Brewbaker brewpub - it's really more of a restaurant/bistro than a pub/kneipe but the food is good (and cheap) and they generally have three of their own beers on offer. The delicious Bellvue pils is permanent and when I was there they had a crackin' Bohemian lager and a rauchbier. It's just underneath the Bellvue s-bahn stop, so it's very easy to find.
You should also check out the 'Hops and Barley' brewpub and if you're prepared to stray a little bit outside the city centre Brauhaus Spandau is well worth a visits <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="

Finally, there's a great beer shop on Karl Marx Alle (Bier-Spezialitäten-Laden) - the owner (Helmut) is a bit of a character and he'll be happy to recommend a few bottles from his vast selection (must be a few hundred) of German beers. I got a couple of bottles of something called Riegele Kellerbier (brewed in Augsburg) off him last year and was well impressed.
As for cultural stuff, it's Berlin, walking the streets is a cultural experience
Viel Spass!
