Yeah I can't imagine them selling too many bottles of Samiclaus on any given friday, for example. Likewise I've had many of them before, and wouldn't be bothered with them again - Sam Adams, for example - I'd rather have something different which I've not had. Same with the cider - how does that fall into the category of 'The Beer'? I wish they would do it so that if you drink eg 20 different beers you get a small glass, 30 you get a helba, and 40 you get a stein.

Also I can't imagine that they are expecting too many people to complete this, else how do they plan to store all the members glasses.

It'd probably be a bit costly to get a Klein engraved, then a Helba and then a Stein. I suppose the challenge is to get people to try things they haven't tried before. In our particular group that may be hard as we already like trying new stuff, but I think it's not a bad idea to give an additional incentive to Joe Public who would otherwise not be so inclined.

I've seen a place where they hung up "members" glasses, so it was also a showpiece. Where there's a will...

No don't get me wrong, I do think it's a fantastic idea to get Joe Public off his beloved BMC. I just wish it was slightly differently executed - eg any XX different beers as I already suggested.

Point taken about the cost of engraving different glasses, but I wouldn't think it'd cost more than a couple of euro per glass, and anyone who buys 40 different (relatively expensive) beers in the one pub to get a cool engraved glass is a customer that is going to come back anyway and give up far more than the cost of the engraving over the next few years.

My only concern is that Joe Public will start at the top, and get as far as Geuze Boon and to hell with that.

Oh, who keeps the scorecard? How bad would it be to be almost done, then forget to take it out of your pocket before washing the trousers?

I don't want to drink that bloody alcopop wannabe cider stuff, nor do I want the fruit beer, nor do I want to waste my money on Erdinger in a pub that serves better. What this comes down to is that there are at least five beers on that list that I do not want to drink, not because I don't know what they taste like, but because I do.

I think Ken's idea is much better. Taste X amount of different beers. That way you aren't forced to drink a lime cider in order to get your own glass.

And they should also allow past performances. And take our word for it, we're an honest bunch
Although I don't mind drinking Goose Island 5 times if they'd let that count
