No where that does craft beer as far as I know. You might get the odd pub with Paulaner or Erdinger though.

For a bite to eat, The Olive grove is good with a great view of the river.
Also the little restaurant opposite (on the street, no view) is excellent for food.

Seans bar behind the castle (oldest site of a pub in Ireland, maybe the world) is nice for an old world style (sawdust) feel if you like Guinness.

I've lived in Athlone all my life and i'm still looking for a decent pub but if i find one before Friday i'll let you know There is lots of nice places for food, a place across from the garda station called Pizza Moma (i think) does great grub but no beer

Did you see the thread on boards.ie in the westmeath forum? Someone was thinking of buying one of the closed pubs and setting up. I was trying to convince him to do something different and sell proper Irish craft beer.

Fingers crossed it works out for him and he takes my advice instead of just opening a normal pub which does not stand out from the rest and he goes the same way as the previous owners.
