Hi all,
I got a couple of bottles of Maximator in Sweeney's, in Glasnevin last night. For those of you unfamiliar with this beer, Maximator is brewed by Augustiner, in Munich and it is a wonderful example of the Doppelbock style, which is something you very rarely see in Ireland.

I saw this in my local off licence during the week (after I had bought my beers). Must get some over the weekend. I've never had a dopplebock.

Coincidently, I had a bottle of Zornickel, an 8.5%Doppelbock from Palmbrau, last night while bottling our 8.5% Belgian Ale. Dinky little 330ml swing tops which were ideal for bottling the strong ale! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

I really like Doppelbocks, and having family in Germany means it's handy to drag a few bottles back when I visit. Palmbrau is relatively local to where the family is, and I don't think I've ever seen it in Ireland.

Must grab me a couple Maximator though! It's famous!

I'm drinking this now - it IS tasty.

I had two of these beers just last night and they taste great. I made a Ayinger bock clone in the past and it tasted similar but this beer is real malty smooth.

Available in the little off license in Rathmines village for €4, I will be picking up more very soon..
