Hobgoblin €1 17 years 10 months ago #1

Redmond's are doing Hobgoblin for €1 a bottle. It's dated 11th June, but there's not a thing wrong with it.

With that date it should really be cheaper. Something like 50 cent <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

The date would not really worries me, more if in a clear bottle

I have no problem with a lot of out of daters - they are usually Best Before Dates - not out of daters. Especially with the stronger alcohol bottles there is no problems I think. Can be great value too!

If I get chance i might pop down to Redmond's on my lunch break tomorrow and pick up a few

Much like the rest of you, use by dates are of little concern to me when it comes to beer (within reason), but I found a few bottles of Goulden Carolus, which is 9% ABV and bottle conditioned, in the back of a cupboard a while back which were around 14 months past it. It tasted fine, but it was only when I tried a fresh bottle a few months later that I realised how much the beer had deteriorated. 14 months is quite a while, but I would have hoped that a stong beer such as that might have aged a little better.
